Apple Launches New “Apple Support Communities”April 19, 2011 by: lillie
The overhaul primarily encompasses two things. First a complete redesign, hopefully making it easier to navigate for the end-user. Secondly, the forums now have a “social media” (ugh) aspect to them. That is, users can promote replies to their questions by giving responses to others’ questions, or “liking” posts. Users can also go back and mark replies as “correct” if the information given was useful, which gives more and more weight to helpful members of the community, and granted further access throughout the forums.
So, it seems that Apple is trying to build in some sort of incentive to promote helpful commentary in their discussion forums. Which, to my eyes, wasn’t sorely needed, as any time I’ve had a question, the community always seemed willing to help.
It’s so cute when Apple tries to do social media.
At any rate, Apple has posted a series of short tutorials to help get you accustomed to the new user interface, and some of the new features.
